DISCOVER THE HOUSE
This high-quality house was built at the end of the 19th century for José Alves Pereira, a Portuguese Army lieutenant who served in the First World War.
Its unusual inverted roof set it apart from other houses in the village. Famous for its comfort and value, it also became known as the “House of the Three Peaks”.
After returning from the war, José Alves Pereira, a talented musician and lover of the arts, married but had no children. He had nine siblings and many nieces and nephews, and the village affectionately called him “Uncle Lieutenant”.
After his death, his estate was divided through the courts. With no direct descendants, the house remained abandoned for several years and deteriorated. One of the heirs later bought the other shares and restored the property as a welcoming place, honouring the much-loved local figure in its name.
The restoration preserved its identity and its connection to the schist villages of Beira Baixa, with schist stone on the exterior and pine wood floors, walls and ceilings inside.
